The story starts in darkest Peru with a small bear raised on stories about London and the kindness of English strangers. He arrives at Paddington Station with a battered suitcase, a jar of marmalade, and a polite stubbornness about finding his place in the world.

The Brown family take him in, almost by accident. What follows is part adventure, part comedy, and part something harder to categorize. When a mysterious villain named Millicent Clyde sets her sights on Paddington, the Browns have to fight to protect him — and in doing so, work out what they actually mean to each other.

The show draws from Michael Bond's original 1958 novel, A Bear Called Paddington, and carries its warmth without softening it into the kind of saccharine family theatre that puts half the audience to sleep. London audiences — children and adults alike — kept coming back for second and third visits. That doesn't happen by accident.

Paddington The Musical - The People

Tom Fletcher (Music and Lyrics): Best known from the British pop-rock band McFly, Fletcher wrote the show's highly praised score. For his first major stage production, he crafted a perfect mix of funny, character-driven songs and deeply emotional ballads.

Jessica Swale (Book): An experienced writer for stage and screen, Swale adapted the original story into the musical's script. She skillfully keeps the plot moving at a good pace while highlighting its genuine emotion without being overly dramatic.

Luke Sheppard (Director): Known for directing & Juliet, Sheppard took on his most technically and emotionally ambitious project yet with this production. His excellent work earned him a widely expected Olivier Award for Best Director.

The Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The Al Hirschfeld Theatre has stood at 302 West 45th Street since 1924, when it opened as the Martin Beck Theatre. It was renamed in 2003 to honour Broadway caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, whose drawings hang in the mezzanine lobby. The building is a New York City landmark, both exterior and interior, designed in a Moorish-Byzantine style by architect G. Albert Lansburgh.

The theatre seats 1,424 people across two levels (Orchestra and Mezzanine) plus a small number of VIP boxes.
